In 1882 Monro wrote 'a new Grammar of the Homeric dialect is sorely wanted.' Apart from this, the second edition (1891), nothing has replaced Monro's original. The second edition is now reprinted because it is still 'sorely wanted'. It remains the account of Homeric Greek, on which all subsequent summaries have been based.
