This book examines early CIA U-2 operations looking at the missions flown and the sensors carried and describes how the imagery and electronic intelligence captured produced thousands of images and tape recordings that were used to produce high quality intelligence on the USSRs most secret military and scientific activities.

The second volume of We Were Never There explores CIA U-2 operations across Asia and the rest of the world from 1957-74. It includes details of previously undisclosed flights, detailed mission routes, special sensor and equipment fits, plus an evaluation of the CIAs U-2 program.

While most famous for its U-2 penetration flights over the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the Peoples Republic of China, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated a large number of other types of intelligence-gathering aircraft, or specially modified aircraft for operations beyond the Iron Curtain from the mid-1940s.
