Poet, critic, infantry officer, professional broadcaster, university teacher, Alun Llywelyn-Williams had been all of these things and more when he died in 1988. He was a perceptive, disciplined poet with a coherent personal philosophy, catholic in spirit, scholarly and humane. Alun Llywelyn-Williams wrote almost exclusively in Welsh and the aim of this essay is to introduce his life and work to the wider English-speaking community.
