Michael was always taken by the idea of love, a deep longing for what he believed to be the purpose of life. His desire manifested itself in various ways: for his family, for his friends, and for Anjali, the girl he meets at college.
But as his love blossoms for her, it reveals something inside him. Vivid hallucinations take hold of him, the world shifting and blurring, and Michael no longer knows what is real and what is not.
A journey through the spiritual lands of his people, a brief moment of hospitalisation, and a diagnosis of bipolar all lead Michael to where he is now.
Born to Sikh parents in 1967, Michael Nangla is the youngest of a proudly traditional family, and is the only member to be born in England, something that has deeply defined him as he reconciles his two cultures. He was a journalist covering politics before becoming a documentary producer for BBC Radio 4 and author. He lives in London with his wife and daughter.
