Description

In The Man Who Tried to Prove Too Much, Philip Hills provides an unflinching account of what it takes to reflect on ones life and achievements.

Philip Hills had an unquenchable thirst for success. Always driving forwards without stopping to reflect, Philip was blissfully unaware that he was fuelled by past hurts and fears. Until the day his life changed forever.

Diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, Philip sets course for the biggest journey of his life: a reckoning with his past that becomes a powerful tool for healing, not just for Philip but for those around him, too.

In this beautifully honest and soul-searching book, Philip looks back on a life motivated by a dream and a deep drive, and asks us to reflect on the true meaning of success and self-fulfilment.

Author Bio

Philip Hills started out his working life in Communications Sales in the UK which quickly took him to Europe and later onto Hong Kong before calling Australia home from his early 30s. Having excelled and reached his milestones in corporate life, an itch for design propelled him into a mid-life career flip which saw him establish his own furniture design studio. From here, he moved into the high-end retail furniture industry and then onto the wholesale management side of the commercial furniture industry, finally bookending his career as Area Manager for Australia and New Zealand for a global Finnish Acoustics company.

Then, in mid 2021, Philip was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer which launched him into the biggest role of his life meeting the real Philip Hills. Inspired by close friends to put down on paper his experiences of a terminal illness and his life stories, Philip also became a first-time author. Only given 12 to 18 months to live, he embarked on writing his memoir The Man Who Tried to Prove Too Much, as he reflected on his career, family and life choices. His inner creative burst through onto paper as he naturally recounted his life stories that have steered and veered him throughout his life with the flare and eloquence of a true storyteller.

He hopes you enjoy his first and only offering in this life as much as he did writing it.
