The life of a world-renowned art collector, scholar and philanthropist In 1967, a young Iranian completed his military service and travelled to study in the United States with $750 - his remaining royalties from a book he wrote aged 14. Over the course of five decades he singlehandedly assembled eight of the finest art collections in their field, totalling some 35,000 pieces, ultimately becoming known as one of the world's greatest collectors. Now, Sir David Khalili shares his extraordinary journey; one that has taken him through the souks of North Africa, the auction houses of Europe and the United States, the bazaars of South Asia, and far beyond. Part-autobiography, part philosophical treatise, The Art of Peace reflects Sir David's belief that art and education can bring people together, helping to foster tolerance and understanding. Co-written by William Fiennes (author of The Snow Geese) this lyrical book showcases the enormous breadth of Sir David's collections as well as an extraordinary life in the service of art, history and peace.
