The first biography of iconic cartoonist Murray Ball, creator of Footrot Flats
Let me show you how my dad became a leading cartoonist of his generation, how his endearing characters evolved and where the side-splitting ideas sprang from. Let's see the man behind the drawing desk and delve into the workings of his mind. - Mason Ball
In Inkline, Mason Ball charts all the hits and misses and long years of hard graft that went into what would become a wildly successful creative enterprise: Footrot Flats. From his unique viewpoint and with congenial honesty, he reveals the real-life backstory to Murray Ball's most iconic characters and themes, paying homage to the man - and father - who could see the quirks of human nature in his surroundings and capture them with the stroke of a pen.
Superbly illustrated with family photos and cartoons by the man who brought us that most lovable character, The Dog.
Mason Ball lives in Wellington with his wife Kuniko and their three children. Mason grew up in Gisborne before completing a Bachelor of Social Science degree at Waikato University. He trained as a journalist at Auckland Technical Institute and went on to work as a reporter and audio sub-editor for Radio New Zealand. He is now an English language teacher and in his spare time enjoys painting, collage and listening to jazz. He is a keen gardener and enjoys playing basketball, frisbee, backgammon and snooker with his children.
