Description

'It was the end of it when Topper got sacked. It was never any good after that. We messed with the original four. It was limping to its death from the minute Topper got sacked. Hopeless' -- Joe Strummer

Topper Headon finally kicked his various addictions (heroin, cocaine, alcohol) only in 2006. He's a very personable bloke, and is now strong enough to face the world and tell the inside story of The Clash for the first time. The combination of him, and his ghostwriter Johnny Green (A Riot of Our Own; Push Yourself Just a Little Bit More) will provide the first real authentic Clash autobiography. Topper was the drummer, and was central to everything in the band during the key years of 1977-1982. Despite originally sacking him from the band, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon still feel very well disposed towards him, even slightly protective of him, and have agreed to help out with the book, along with all the other key Clash insiders: Bernie Rhodes, Kosmo Vinyl, 'the Baker', etc. Pennie Smith, the famous photographer of all things Clash, has supplied previously unseen pictures . . . But, above all, this will be a pull-no-punches, entertaining rock 'n' roll memoir , taking in the high highs of life in one of the most popular bands of all time, and the low lows, post The Clash (time in prison, heroin addiction, life as a taxi driver).

'I'm delighted Topper is still alive, against all the odds. He is an absolute sweetheart' -- Pete Townshend
