Topper Headon finally kicked his various addictions (heroin, cocaine, alcohol) only in 2006. Topper was the drummer, and was central to everything in the band during the key years of 1977-1982. Topper Headon joined the Clash in 1977. He was there for the five crucial years of the band before being sacked in 1982.
