Description

This high-quality, limited edition exquisitely produced and leather bound book, signed by the author, is a celebration of the life and art of William Dobell, considered to be one of Australia's greatest artists. Dobell was the first artist to win both the Wynne Prize for landscapes and the Archibald Prize for portraiture in the same year. But William Dobell was also a quintessential Aussie bloke - more at home in the local pub with his mates than on the international stage. He also seemed to find controversy wherever he went, famously being sued by fellow competitors after winning the Archibald Prize in 1943. Lavishly illustrated with artworks, personal photographs and newspaper clippings, William Dobell: An Artist's Life paints a compelling portrait of both the man and the artist.

Author Bio

Elizabeth Donaldson enjoyed a rewarding career as a teacher. After her retirement she and her husband moved to Wangi Wangi, and found themselves living just six houses down from Dobell House, his former residence and today a lasting memorial to William Dobell's life and art. This sparked her fascination with the artist and Liz became an active volunteer there in 1999. She has held numerous positions, including Vice President, Publicity Officer and Funding Co-ordinator. Her involvement also saw her embark on a research project that has culminated in this, her first book. Today, Liz lives with her husband Bob in an inner suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales.
