The story of a new age traveller who one day found himself on the Times Rich List - without having compromised his beliefs. Far from being a 'how to do' business manual; it's more of a challenge to the widely accepted understanding of what business fundamentally is and does - its raison d'etre. Green Briton is about a journey in pursuit of another way to live. Dale Vince OBE is founder, and owner of Ecotricity. He dropped out of school aged fifteen and then out of society because he didn't share its values. Ten years later he found himself living as a hippy on a hill in the Cotswolds, using a small windmill to power his home, an ex-military trailer rescued from a scrap yard. When he saw the UK's first wind farm in Cornwall, he was inspired to build his own. That first windmill took five years to build. The following year he went to Kyoto, to lobby the case for wind energy in the fight against climate change. Over the next few years Ecotricity grew up amongst the UK's giant energy companies, battled in the high court with Thames Water, was hit hard by the Enron affair and dodged more than one bullet. But what didn't kill it really did make it stronger, each time. Vince's creation is now the biggest, most successful and oldest independent energy company in the UK, spending more per customer on new-build green energy than every other UK energy company combined, year after year - and with the driving aim to make a positive difference to the world. This is a very different kind of rags to riches story - one with an ethical belief at its core.
Dale Vince is the founder and owner of the energy firm Ecotricity. He is also the owner of Forest Green Rovers Football Club.
