An important work of scholarship, this biography of Donald McLean focuses on the time period from his first government appointment as Protectorate of Aborigines in 1843 to his death in 1877. A key figure in the drama surrounding New Zealand land deals during the 19th century, McLean served as Land Purchase Commissioner and was closely involved in land deals in the Taranaki and elsewhere that continue to have repercussions today.
Ray Fargher was a teacher and the general secretary of the Association of Teachers in Technical Institutes until 1986.
