With an exclusive new chapter on the Penrith Panthers' stunning four-time 2024 NRL Premiership victory, this inspiring leadership story from the history-making coach behind their success reveals how connection and courage teach us to win, and how he pulled off the impossible to mentor and lead a grassroots club to the top and become the undisputed champions of the league.
It's described as the greatest achievement the modern game has seen - multiple back-to-back premiership wins by the Penrith Panthers in 2021, 2022, 2023 and now 2024.
This special updated four-peat edition features an exciting new chapter about Cleary's team's staggering fourth consecutive grand final win and what drove them to achieve the unthinkable - AGAIN - in 2024.
Cleary tells all about what he's learned and how he leads, informed by his decades as a player and coach, and as a mentor and leader who understands that not everything counts, but everything matters. He also shares insights into his success, including the value of persistence, the power of culture, community and connection, facing your fears and tackling them head-on, the architecture of achievement - and the importance of risking it all.
Delving deep into his work with one of the most diverse teams in the league and the trials and triumphs he faces as a leader, Cleary reveals all about working with his superstar son, Nathan, the talented young local players rising through the club, and the elite players who represent the changing face of the game.
With a foreword by former All Blacks coach John Hart, an afterword by Nathan Cleary and insights from Isaah Yeo, Api Koroisau and former Panthers Head of Performance Hayden Knowles, this powerful book reveals how to create a champion team.
Ivan Cleary is one of the most successful NRL coaches of the modern era. Under his leadership the Penrith Panthers are one of the most dominant forces in the league, having won the 2021, 2022 and 2023 premierships, a 'three-peat' not seen since the 1980s. The 2020 NRL Coach of the Year also coached Wests Tigers and the New Zealand Warriors, leading the Warriors to their second-ever grand final in 2011. As a player, Ivan wore jerseys for the Manly Sea Eagles, North Sydney Bears, Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors. Ivan and his wife, Rebecca, have raised four children and live in Sydney. Andrew Webster is a sports journalist and writer. In the past 30 years, he has covered rugby league, summer and winter Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups and Super Bowls.
