Kerry Evans is an inspiration to us all: a woman who has achieved s o much and helped so many despite the odds stacked firmly against her.
Is it any wonder that when Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds realised they had to win over the supporters of the club they wanted to buy, the two people they rang were footballing club legend Dixie McNeill and Kerry Evans
Born with cerebral palsy, something she worked hard to overcome and forge ahead with her life, Kerry then suffered a bleed on the brain, which left her with no feeling on the right side nor the ability to walk. Such a setback could have destroyed her. Initially, she lost confidence and felt worthless. But then Wrexham Football Club came into her life, and she was transformed. And then Hollywood came calling.
As disability liaison officer at Wrexham, Kerry was one of only six staff members who worked at the club prior to the Hollywood takeover and is therefore uniquely qualified to speak about how life at the club has changed. She has witnessed at first hand the incredible story of how two Hollywood stars fell in love with a small football club in north Wales and transformed not only the fortunes of the team but also those of the community surrounding it. But this is not just the story of the Hollywood takeover at Wrexham this is the story of how one woman's indomitable spirit enabled her to overcome adversity and spend her life helping others.
Kerrys story isnt inspiration. Its ignition. It lights something inside yourself a belief that no matter what your body does or what the world says, you can manifest the impossible. You can build systems of kindness, connection, impact and togetherness. Ryan Reynolds, actor and co-owner of Wrexham AFC
Kerry is the heart beating beneath the chants, the quiet voice behind the roar of the crowd. Shes the person who reminds us me, Ryan, the entire club why were doing this in the first place. Its not just about football. Its about community. Its about belonging. Rob McElhenney, actor and co-owner of Wrexham AFC
Kerry Evans, disability liaison officer at Wrexham AFC, is one of the stars of Disney's Welcome to Wrexham, which has won five Primetime Emmy Awards and been renewed for a third season.
Katie Whyatt is an award-winning football correspondent for The Athletic. She worked with England and Arsenal forward Beth Mead on her Sunday Times-bestselling memoir, Lioness: My Journey to Glory.
