Description

Author /Producer K. Bethany gives a heart-gripping story about her early childhood growing up in 1970's Detroit, where she faced bullying and witnessed social activism during the height of the black power movement. With the love of family, Kimberly attempts to triumph all while trying to make it through elementary school. Elementary My Dear gives a humorous look into the life of Young Kimberly, a girl who faced many challenges during her elementary years. This story also speaks of perseverance through hard times, and how she made it through the golden years of growing up black. Elementary My Dear gives a birds-eye view of 1970's Detroit and how the strength of one family overcame many hurdles of the past. Young Kimberly explains why she isn't to fond of school, being an inquisitive child who use to be a bit mischievous at times. Kimberly explains growing up on the North End of Detroit, in an area that once was called Black Bottom & Paradise Valley, how the "Rabbit has died" and how to keep a secret from her grandmother MA 'MA, all while trying to devise a plan on how to blow up the world so she won't ever have to attend school. Kimberly is held hostage by her paranoid schizophrenic neighbor and chased by a giant German Shepherd with her friend Michael, after defying once again, MA'MA's orders. The Black Power movement has reached its pinnacle and young Kimberly is a witness of the climate, however; this doesn't matter to her because all she thinks about is her sisters most prized possession... that beautiful white coat.
