"Fractured" is an autobiography detailing the author's earliest memory -- the savage beating of his mother by her tormentor. Carlespie, the author, records several such incidents which occurred during the first eleven years of his life. It was during this time he was introduced to a cult which would have far-reaching painful consequences. After being used as unwitting bait he witnessed the murder of the first person to ever love him, he reacted as if it did not happen.
He continued to perform well in school and won an academic scholarship to the most prestigious high school in Michigan. Nonetheless, because of the cult, he rejected offers to attend Ivy League institutions and completely embraced the doctrines of the cult. He also married a fellow cult member and fathered four children. He would eventually escape the cult and leave the marriage only to fall in love again and nearly drown.
After a series of humiliating experiences he made a deliberate effort to re-think, then re-build his life from the fractured pieces he had been walking on. In the end, he emerges as a reconstructed human being -- different and hopefully better.
Carlespie M.A. McKinney was born and raised in Michigan and California. He earned his Bachelor's and two Master's degrees in business and accounting from Wayne State University. Currently, he teaches business and accounting courses at a Michigan community college.
