Los Susurros del Barrio is a collection of short stories about growing up in South Valley Albuquerque. Through stories about his relatives and his own adventures John is about to describe the complexities of growing up gay in a Chicano barrio and the difficulties between the traditions and culture of the Chicano experience and the white world across the river. At the core of all his stories is family, culture and the land. The Rio Grande river and the acequia system the crisscross the South Valley loom heaving in the life and stories of la gente de Las Mercedes (original name of the south valley of Albuquerque).

Author Bio

John is a retired public employee who resides in Santa Fe, NM. He began writing stories he had been telling to friends and family for years. Retirement gave John the time he needed to write the stories that occupied his thoughts for many years. Writing the stories allowed John to discovered an inner voice he had no idea existed. The stories seemed to jump on the page revealing to John inner truths and at the same time gave him the vehicle to venerate his relatives and the barrio that shaped his life. The resulting book in a piece of life carved out in the barrios of South Valley Albuquerque.Cornelio Trujillo received his BA in Art from New Mexico Highlands University returning to his home in Chimayo, NM he has distinguished himself as a proponent of traditional Northern New Mexican Fork Artist. He continues a tradition created by Spanish settlers and indigenous artists. To preserve this art form he teaches at Senior Citizen centers in Chimayo.
