Description

Included in this book are a collection of factual and often humorous stories.

The Invincible Twenty-Seventh recounts the experiences of a 16-year-old Australian infantryman fighting on the Western Front during World War 1. The tough day to day life in the trenches is broken only by short respites at the rear or advancing into battle when he experiences unimaginable horrors. The Anzac soldier comes alive as the author uses his original diary and maps to describe his movements and experiences during critical battles on the now serene farmland of northern France.

Follow the journey of two young backpackers as they travel around Britain in 1980. Restricted by a meagre budget they first experience the eccentricity of working class London. Then, with an old Commer van as their home they resort to wild camping as they meander up the east coast of England and Scotland. Camping on the dark lonely shore of Loch ness and the lush mountains of the lake district will pale into insignificance. What they experience one night in the forests of southern England will send chills down your spine.

Other stories include some unexplained paranormal experiences, a grand sailing adventure and a humorous travel story.

Travel back in time to a near derelict urban society of the 1930s Great Depression. Great Aunt Agnes and Half Days and Patched Pants' enable the reader to live and breathe the childhood adventures of the author and his relationships with his often eccentric relatives.

The variety of subjects covered, and the fact that these stories are true will, Im sure, only enhance the enjoyment and interest of the reader. Enjoy.

Author Bio

David Colwell was born in Adelaide South Australia in 1954. During his adult life he has found himself employed in a variety of occupations. Stock and station clerk, postie, yacht skipper, door to door salesman, share trader, author and photographer. Backpacking extensively throughout the world over many decades, often on meagre budgets, has only added to his life's unusual experiences. David co-authored three non-fiction books in the 1980s with his father and published them under the umbrella of Max Colwell Publications. 'Lights Vision', 'Australia's Timeless Land' and 'Heritage Preserved with the National Trust of South Australia'. Relying on his extensive sailing knowledge, David wrote a series of instructional articles on catamaran racing tactics for the magazine 'Australian Sailing'. Now retired David has decided to collate some of his quirky experiences into a book of short stories; The Invincible Twenty Seventh and other true stories. His next project is a book on share trading, taken from a decidedly unusual perspective.
