Description

A stunning tribute to the lifelong friendship and collaboration of Salvador Dali and Walt Disney. In 1945, the two began working on a project together, intended to be a short animated film called Destino. Dali partnered with Disney Legend John Hench to storyboard the film, but production was brought to a halt because of financial difficulties. Over fifty years later, Walt's nephew Roy E. Disney decided to give it new life. The film went on to be nominated for an Academy Award in 2004. This volume showcases all 150 pieces of art created by Dali and Hench.

Reviews

PRAISE FOR DALI AND DISNEY: DESTINO"In 1946, Salvador Dal and Walt Disney began collaborating on a short film. It took nearly sixty years for that film to be completed for various reasons . . . [Dali and Disney: Destino] tells the story of how Dal and Disney became friends first, and then collaborators . . . Destino ended up being a very short film, and it's a shame we don't know what the original vision would have looked like, but this book is an inside peek at how it all came to be."
--Geek Dad
PRAISE FOR DALI AND DISNEY: DESTINO"Walt Disney and Salvador Dali were among Andy Warhol's favorites and he probably would have loved their collaborative film, Destino. Certainly the marriage of art and commerce, painting and film that Destino represents was at the center of Warhol's artistic practice. Dave Bossert lovingly reconstructs the decades spent conceiving, executing and eventually bringing the film to the screen. Perhaps most moving and important, however, is the evident pride the contemporary Disney team took in bringing the project to fruition. As Bossert quotes Roy Disney regarding Destino, "Our roots are in art, in that side of the world rather the commercial side. It's important that we keep remembering that."--Patrick Moore, Deputy Director, The Andy Warhol Museum
PRAISE FOR DALI AND DISNEY: DESTINO"Dave, as a key player in helping Roy Disney bringing this lost jewel back from oblivion, has a great responsibility in educating the public, especially the younger generations, as to the importance of the magic collaboration between Disney and Dal, and what it means to art today. Thanks to him the story is now told. And good story tellers are the best educators."--Juan M. Sevillano, Managing Director, Gala-Salvador Dali Foundation
