Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799 1837) was a Russian author of the Romantic era, one of Russias greatest poets and the founder of modern Russian literature. Victor Terras is Henry L. Goddard University Professor of Slavic Languages and Comparative Literature emeritus at Brown University, USA. He is the author of Mayakovsky, The Idiot: An Interpretation; A History of Russian Literature. A Karamazov Companion, and has translated three volumes of Dostoevsky's writing.
