Description

For Gary Jobsonthe three-time All American sailor, Americas Cup winner, Fastnet Race winner, and ESPN sailing commentator since 1985sailing is life. In 2003, he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and here he relays the tumultuous diagnosis and treatments endured before the cancer went into remission. Through remission he remembers how his life has intertwined with some of the greatest sailors, how the sport has changed since his childhood, how the public view of sailing went through a revolutionary change with the advent of ESPN, how sailing can create lasting bonds of friendship that endure, and how sailing offers everything from the highest of adventures to the simplest of pleasures. This uplifting memoir also includes a foreword by Ted Turner.

Reviews

"Sailing has many legends and icons, but the face of the sport for the last three decades has been Gary Jobson. From America's Cup champion to television commentator and lecturer, Jobson is ubiquitous on the sailing circuit." --www.SoundingsOnline.com (August 2011)
"This is a memoir of a great sailor and tireless sailing promoter who is able to retell key sailing moments with great understanding and detail." --"SpinSheet" (August 22, 2011)
"A must read. Think of it as an autobiography with some great sea stories mixed in." --"Windcheck "(June 18, 2011)
"He's America's eye on the sport, as close to a sailing celebrity as there is. Like the picture of him on the dust-cover--showing a tanned, smiling warrior back from the brink, all craggy face and crooked teeth--it's the real deal." --"Wall Street Journal "(June 18, 2011)
