The memoir tells the story of the effects, caused by the upheaval of the Russian revolution through to the postwar partitioning of Germany by the Allied forces, on a German family. Although the atrocities committed by the Hitler regime against Jews are well known, little is known about the plight of Germans living in Eastern Europe at the end of World War II.
The memoir is an intimate family story in the midst of chaos. In spite of human resilience, many refugees are marked for life. Hopefully, German Refugee Child contributes to sympathy and understanding for the refugees of today.
