Description

Fuelled by Tom 'Hookie' Nash's dark humour and razor-sharp wit, Hook, Line & Sinner is an 'anti-inspirational' take on disability, a wild ride of survival and a case study in redefining life's limitations on your own terms. Tom 'Hookie' Nash has spent his adult life mesmerising audiences around the world, either with his thought-provoking philosophies on such topics as Fear, Innovation, Luck and Happiness or with his hypnotic DJ sets. However, before his career had even begun, Tom was given a less than 10 per cent chance of survival after contracting a deadly disease at the age of nineteen, resulting in him losing both his arms and legs. Nash not only went on to survive, but to thrive, taking on life with nothing more than a pair of prosthetic hooks and a dark sense of humour. In a world where inspiration porn belies the true intrigue and hard-won lessons gained from overcoming adversity, Hook, Line & Sinner is Tom's visceral yet revelatory memoir of what it's like to survive a life-threatening illness against all odds and come out the other side burning to live, fuelled by curiosity, steeped in debauchery, driven to create, and bold in his decision not to become a Paralympian.

Author Bio

As a world renowned keynote speaker, nightclub DJ and thought-leader, Tom Nash has spent his adult life mesmerising audiences, either with his thought-provoking philosophies or hypnotic DJ sets. However, before this career had even begun, Tom was given a less than 10 per cent chance of survival after contracting a deadly disease at the age of nineteen, resulting in him losing both of his arms and legs. Nash went on not only to survive, but to thrive, taking on life with nothing more than a pair of prosthetic hooks and a dark sense of humour. As a keen musician and avid guitarist from a young age, losing his arms would prove devastating and for more than just the obvious reasons. Undeterred , Nash went on to 'hack' his Fender Stratocaster, building adaptations that would enable him to play the guitar without the use of hands. After securing his rightful place in the music industry, Nash went on to start his own entertainment company, and a world-famous club night in Sydney. He concurrently launched a DJ career, teaching himself to mix records with his prosthetic hooks. Tom went on to become one of Australia's most famous DJs, producing countless records and playing international clubs as well as Australia's largest music festivals. In more recent years, Tom has become an internationally in-demand Keynote Speaker, regularly presenting ideas and philosophies on a wide range of topics including Adversity, Function, Luck, Fear, Happiness and Technology. His latest TED Talk entitled 'The Perks of Being a Pirate' was featured on the TED.com website and garnered over two million views in just the first few months.
