Description

This book is not about aspirational living; its about practical living. Its about looking at the world around you and finding where its at fault, rather than blaming yourself. Its about dropping the comfortable prisons we create for ourselves to find the real freedom and happiness we deserve.

We live in a world that is overfed but malnourished, sunlight deficient, overly competitive, sedentary, and sleep deprived. Our blood pressure and stress levels are at record highs, our mental health at record lows. Our eyes are strained from looking at screens all the time, and our backs are killing us. We buy far too much of what we dont need, and we arent even pooing in the right position!

Yet step outside, maybe walk a few minutes down the road, and you will inevitably see plants bursting with nourishment, hear calming birdsong, breath in fresh air, move your stiff body. Perhaps we have the answer to all our modern malaises right here, outside our own homes. Perhaps it is time for a New Wild Order.

Join forager, author, dad, and everyday fella Andy Hamilton, as he answers his own call of the wild, and discovers how it might just save his life and yours.

Reviews

Andy Hamilton offers something rare these days hope. Whilst acknowledging the mess weve made of the planet he points us in a new direction back to our literal and metaphorical roots. He knows the only way we can heal our world and heal our inner disquiet is by inviting the natural world back into our lives. He reminds us of that we only flourish when we embrace nature and a life disconnected from the wild is hollow and unsatisfactory. As a guide to what we have lost and how we can embrace it once more Andy is unsurpassed. He offers simple solutions to buoy us up, inspire us and propel us forward turbo-charged by that wonder ingredient nature. I can honestly say, having interviewed many 100s of writers, no one matches the sheer inspirational zeal of Andy Hamilton.

-- Steve Yabsley * BBC Radio Bristol *

This is an interesting read which reflects on modern life and the detachment from mother nature. Andy looks at the practical methods to address these issues and encourages time out with Mother nature to restore the balance.

-- Christine Walkden, British television presenter and gardener

I loved reading New Wild Order. As a forager and nature lover theres always more to learn, and Andy gave me new insights to enrich my life with. It gives a valuable perspective on where were at as a culture and knits themes together that you might not expect. Thank you Andy for this brilliant addition to writing about the wild.

-- Rachel Lambert, award-winning author of Wild and Sweetand forager

New Wild Order is a breath of fresh air. This book will shake you out of your doldrums and help you find your peace of mind again with a simple but powerful solution: getting outside. As a mother to a young son, this book is pivotal in parenting. Its a reminder for all of us to set the screens down and just go outside. Its as simple and as powerful as that. New Wild Order serves as a my daily call to get past the desk and out into this big, beautiful world. I never regret it.

-- Dr. Lauren Cook, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and author of Generation Anxiety

Full of kindness, honesty, and gentle joy, this memoir-meets-lifestyle-guide is a balm for anyone looking for a change of perspective.

-- Mary-Ann Ochota, broadcaster and author

Andy Hamilton is a forager and philosopher of wild living. He ponders and then writes bravely, yet lightly on the big subjects: life, consciousness, art, shelter, bodies, music, sleep, death. He explains how the call of nature saved his life, and he wants it to save yours. Please read his wise words. Hes great company, and is your host for the New Wild Order party (which will be outdoors, under the stars, with wild food on the menu).

-- Matthew Seal, forager and co-author of Eat your Weeds! and Hedgerow Medicine
