Description

Beginning as a busker in the Wellington, Don's professional career has had him playing at restaurants, dances, race meetings, pubs, concerts, festivals, weddings and funerals. He's also taught music in schools, night classes, prisons, and to private students. Learning Media recorded several of his songs for children, and he's just completed a CD of ukulele instrumentals. A left-wing activist for over 40 years, Don has performed at countless protests and picket lines. He has recorded two albums of his protest songs, and currently produces a weekly Access Radio programme of music and social commentary. Don's first book, Next to Gods, presented a worker's view of the cleaning industry, drawing on his own experience. Now, in Nice Work If You Can Get It, he tells lively tales from the life of a gigging musician as few outside the business know it.
