Description

Burdened with a face only a mother could love, Stan Cattermole is determined to find a woman. Lugging his man-boobs along for the ride, Stan shows Bridget Jones how it's done in this hilarious, heart-wrenching and often outrageous account of his quest for love.
This is no misery memoir, but a tell-it-like-it-is account of an ugly mans trials, tribulations and small triumphs, in and out of the bedroom. One part love story, one part family saga, eight parts outrageous, laugh-out-loud tragicomedy - and then, just for luck, another part love story, this tale wrenches at the heart strings and the funny bone, and will drag you screaming with laughter through the whole gamut of human emotions.

CHORTLE! as Stan pops his cyber-cherry with the aid of a light sabre, a bowling ball and a large knob of butter.

GASP! as Stan is blindfolded, tied to a bed and abused with an IKEA spatula.

DESPAIR! as the pretty nose of yet another potential love interest wrinkles in utter, utter disgust.

The story of one man overcoming his hurdles and making something wonderful of a miserable life, this ever-hopeful tale will resonate with anyone who's suffered pain and rejection, anyone who's vowed to transform their life and anyone who's ever learned to laugh in the face of adversity.

Reviews

Cattermole has been called one of the most exciting new literary talents of 2009 - impressive stuff for a guy who just wants to get lucky. ()so funny you can't help feeling that, sooner or later, he'll succeed.
-London Lite, May 19, 2009

The writing. Oh, the writing. I enjoy reading Stan Cattermole's writing as much as I enjoy Mark Twain and Charles Dickens and Kurt Vonnegut. I have rarely read anything more painfully humorous and delightfully moving.

The first thing you notice is that Stan is a very funny guy. () This is a warm-hearted, well-written, amusing read.
-Amazon

unexpectedly touching blend of mordant laced humour, pathos and a compelling character study

Author Bio

Stan Cattermole is the nom de plume of Bete de Jour. Bete de Jour is another nom de plume. Then theres Plug Sugden, Slim Mitchum and Edgar Elbows. Stan has had more noms de plumes than most men have had hot dates. This is because, like Belle de Jour before him, he chooses to remain anonymous not because hes afraid of fame and celebrity screwing up his day job (or indeed night job), but because for once in his life he wants to move beyond the bald fact of his ugly face.
