The gripping inside story of Nathan Carmans crimes from the maritime lawyer who solved his multi-millionaire mothers disappearance at sea and his even wealthier grandfathers murder.
When Nathan and Linda Carman were a week overdue from a fishing trip out of Point Judith, Rhode Island, few thought they would still be alive. Even the Coast Guard had called off its search. So it seemed miraculous when Nathan was spottedon a life raft, 106 miles south of Marthas Vineyardby the Chinese freighter ORIENT LUCKY.
But was it more than luck Nathan survived but his mother did not. Then news broke that Nathan was the primary suspect in his wealthy grandfathers murder three years before, though the case chilled from lack of evidence. The last person to see both victims alive Twenty-two-year-old Nathan, who was now in line for an $11 million inheritance!
Or was Nathan, apparently on the autism spectrum, plain unlucky to have lost the only two people close to him As he claimed on national TV, was the medias focus on him as the the lowest hanging fruit just a mistake
With no witnesses, no charges in his grandfathers shooting, and no body for his mother lost at sea, the case might have also gone coldexcept that Nathan made a claim for his lost boat. Enter David J. Farrell, Jr., attorney for the insurance company, who suspects Nathans evil and greedy plans. With the claim, he can depose Nathanwith a mind to expose his murderous intentions with enough evidence for Nathan to go to trial in federal court.
Follow the author, David J. Farrell, Jr., as his team dissects Nathans final voyage, presents exclusive testimony, and assembles evidence from around the world. In Dead in the Water, youll pull up a seat inside the trial to see if Nathans dream of drifting away with millions of dollars comes true.
Ever wonder what it's like to investigate a murder seventy miles offshore and in a hundred and forty fathoms of murky water Check out David Farrells new book, Dead in the Water: The Real Story of Nathan Carman. A maritime attorney who worked the case, Farrells eye for detail shines through, as does a great New England vibe. This is a fantastic sea yarn, as well as a chilling glimpse into the mind of a young man who, Farrell believes, killed not just offshorebut onshore too. -- Michael Harvey, creator of A&Es Cold Case Files and best selling author of Brighton
