Miguel A. Hernandez found his niche in the courtroom. His many clients trusted him with their future and he rose to the occasion with humility and perseverance. Born in San Antonio Texas, he moved to California with his mother, as a young boy, along with three younger siblings. Later, as his family size grew, Miguel became the second oldest child of nine brothers and sisters. He often cared for his younger siblings as his family worked their way out of poverty. Encouraged by teachers, he did well in school and discovered the path that would lead him to college, through the military, law school and eventually settling into decades of representing those in need of legal help.
Miguel A. Hernandez was born into a life of poverty, grew up as a child working in the agricultural fields and learned English while immersed in the California education system. He learned Mandarin Chinese in the United States Air Force, returned to finish a college education at CSU Fresno, and serendipitously wound up at the Santa Clara University School of Law. Graduating law school, he eschewed a career in tax law to become a deputy public defender with no previous interest in criminal law or defending people accused of committing crimes. In the ensuing years (almost fifty), he reared a family of two sons with his wife and conducted many jury trials with incredible luck and remarkable, surprising endings.
