Over the past five years, the Italian-American Political Solidarity Club has held an annual poetry reading on the holiday formally known as Columbus Day. Their purpose is to encourage paesans to break with the legacy of Christopher Columbus and to embrace a future based on human solidarity, not conquest, domination and war.
