This collection is the first of its kind: it brings to North America essays that are organized around the theme of the fantastic in Alain Robbe-Grillet's writings. The essays are by leading critics in the field of Robbe-Grillet studies. The contributors' essays emphasize the style and content of Robbe-Grillet's work, tying them to the theme of the fantastic as a vehicle for subversion. This book is for students, scholars, and critics with an interest in French literature, modern French and European literature, those interested in the fantastic and modern literature, and all readers and students of Alain Robbe-Grillet.
This excellent, well-rounded and well-documented book should be in any library for graduate students, researchers, or individuals intending to teach or to expand their knowledge of Robbe-Grillet's novels and/or films.-SFRA Review
