Description

Students, researchers, readers' advisors, and women's fiction fans will find a starting point for researching popular women's fiction authors and to find new ones with this practical guide. It includes entries for more than 70 leading contemporary and popular authors, listing print and online sources, as well as web sites for obtaining authoritative information. A special addition to this volume is the inclusion of "author read-alikes" for 15 of the featured authors. An appendix lists some of the classic forerunners of women's fiction.

Reviews

Particularly useful is the list of major works as well as the suggestions of other authors the reader might like . . . * ARBA *
Vnuk defines women's fiction as being of several different genres; however, 'the central character or characters are women. And the main thrust of the story is the life of that woman.' Geared toward students and fans as well as librarians, this is a good guide to finding additional women's fiction authors to read as well as finding information about favorite writers. * Booklist *
In this research guide for students, librarians, and women's fiction enthusiasts, Vnuk, a reader's advisory and adult services librarian, provides a guide for those who already know about an author and want to learn more or find similar authors. She presents entries on 70 popular women's fiction and chick lit authors (mostly contemporary) who are not included in classic reference works. Entries, which are in alphabetical order by author last name, emphasize online resources and include a short biography, a list of novels, and sources for biographical and critical information. Suggestions of similar books are given. * Reference & Research Book News *
it is certainly a resource for those readers looking for more stories by familiar authors and for the librarians who might aid them. * Feminist Collections *
