Winner of New Diorama, Underbelly and Methuen Dramas Untapped Award 2022 A dying mans last wish: for his friends to create a show about death. Will it be subtle Will it be sophisticated Probably not, but its his funeral. Literally. Multi-award-winning physical comedy company Ugly Bucket process the death of a friend in the only way they know how through a kinetic maelstrom of outrageous clowning, personal testimony and a thumping techno soundtrack. This edition of Good Grief is richly illustrated by artist Kidda Kinsey, in an explosion of whimsical art that brings the show sharply from the stage onto the page. It was published to coincide with the production at Underbelly Cowgate, Edinburgh, in August 2022.
It's fast, it's funny and it plumbs the emotional depths exquisitely ... exciting, innovative work. * The Stage *
Ugly Bucket are one of the UK's most exciting young theatre companies, combining clowning, music and verbatim text to tackle taboos head-on. Led by artistic directors Grace Gallagher and Rachael Smart, they're based in Liverpool and are part of the New Diorama's Emerging Company Programme. Previous productions include ABC (Anything But Covid), commissioned by HOME in Manchester, and NSDF and Liverpool Fringe award-winner Bost-Uni Plues. Kidda Kinsey is an illustrator and storyteller, born in the suburbs of Chell. They like to explore the whimsical and surreal, through varied visual explorational pathways such as (and not limited to) digital, print and Ink. Inspired by the likes of Roald Dahl, Dr. Seuss and Tim Burton, Kidda is currently building the foundations to a magical world of their own, all influenced by the local folk tales, ceramics and characters (both real and imagined) of The Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent.
