Sometimes you surprise people into being better than they are. Laura and Anna, half-sisters, plan a grand net stretching across the skyline of North London as a way to unite their community. But not everyones convinced. Meanwhile Hala, a Syrian refugee staying with the family, finds herself caught in a tangle of immigration red tape. With time running out, drought spreading, and the authorities closing in, the net becomes their arena in the pursuit of justice, joy and safety. Misha Levkovs stunning debut interweaves the lives of the three women as delicately as the web they weave on stage. Family, protest, and the joy of defiance meet in this thrilling piece. This edition was published to coincide with the world premiere at London's Jermyn Street Theatre, in January 2023.
Misha Levkov launched his playwriting career with In the Net, the first in a trilogy of plays (and a novel) on politics and private life in the unsettled present day. He has previously written books and essays on modern culture and literature, and has lectured on the subject around the world. All of his work concerns the mystery of modernity: how we struggle to live up to our moment and to break into a better future.
