A Royal encounter. An enduring love. A bungalow in Penge. For 60 years Helena has been Queen of Maurice's heart. But his Great Love is another Queen. The Queen Helena says he's never met. Maurice's Jubilee, a new play by award winning actress and writer Nichola McAuliffe, is a funny and poignant exploration of one man's enduring commitment to a dream. And an eternal love triangle fallen on hard times...
"McAuliffe proves herself a more than promising playwright. There's a touch of Alan Bennett in the spry wit - A longer life for the play looks a must - " 4 stars - Telegraph 'finely observed - strong and polished" - The Stage 'deeply moving and surprising' - What's On Stage 'interesting and quirky' - Independent"
Nichola McAuliffe is an award-winning actress most recently seen as Wallis Simpson in Untitled, Katisha in the Mikado, Miss Shepard in The Lady in the Van and as Madame Aldonza in Stephen Frears' film Cheri. On television she is best known as Sheila Sabatini in Surgical Spirit. Her play A British Subject is based on the real-life story of how her husband, investigative journalist Don Mackay, became the first journalist to interview Mirza Tahir Hussain during his time on death row in Pakistan. A British Subject has played around the world and has received a plethora of 4- and 5-star reviews.
