Description

It's called your Christmas scar!
If you have a scar from Christmas you've wrecked the day.

It's Sue's tattoo.

Its the 23rd of December and Dave is preparing his Christmas tradition to party like it's 1994. The drinks are flowing, the music is pumping. Tonight's going to be a good night. Until the buzz from his phone stops the noise bringing him back to the real world.

Its a text that gives him the chance to create a new Christmas tradition and meet his grandson for the first time. Join Dave on this epic festive quest as he battles to buy a Christmas present for his six-year-old grandson.

First produced in 2019 to sell-out audiences at Alphabetti Theatre and critical acclaim, Present was written and directed by Ali Pritchard, Alphabetti Theatre's founder and Artistic Director from 2012 until 2024.

This edition was published to coincide with the production at Newcastle's Live Theatre in December 2024.

Author Bio

Ali Pritchard is a writer, actor, director, and producer. In 2012 Ali founded Alphabetti Theatre at the age of 22, making him one of the UKs youngest artistic directors running a venue. He has a BA honours in Drama & Scripting from Northumbria University, and a Higher Diploma in Contemporary Vocals from The Academy of Contemporary Music. Ali is a visiting lecturer at a number of higher educational organisations across the North East, and in 2013 following a yearlong graduate fellowship at Northumbria University, he won the Best Postgraduate Lecturer award. Under Alis leadership, Alphabetti have become a crucial part of the arts ecology in the region. Alphabetti is now a fully registered charity and has just secured a 10 year lease for their current premise a 75 seater venue with its own bar, rehearsal room, studios and workshop. With their bold Pay What You Feel ticketing scheme, which is unique for the city - they have been able to engage with a new and diverse audience. The majority of their yearlong programme of 280 300 performances are part of this scheme. Following the first full year in the venue Alphabetti welcomed 10,000 audience members and worked with 1,100 artists.
