A condensed version of Shakespeare's three play saga of the Wars of the Roses, from England's loss of France, the quarrel between the Dukes of York and Somerset, to chaos, bloody battles and the rise of the future king, Richard III. Patrotism, glory, greed, treachery and tragedy, as performed over two evenings by Propellor, an all-male theatre company that aims to recreate the atmosphere of original Shakespeare productions, by using outdoor space and interactive media. Premiere at The Watermill Theatre, Newbury in February, 2001.
Speaks honestly, vividly and with commendable simplicity and modernity to its audience about a time when England's green and pleasant land was polluted by blood * The Guardian. *
