The scripts are grouped into three sections according to their scale. They cater for the small cast as well as for the bigger group, offering a variety of styles, themes and genres. Each play offers the reader or performer an engaging and illuminating miniature piece of theatre. The collection features an introduction by editor Jack Bradley.
'An excellent idea -with real international market value.' * Geoff Colman, Head of Acting, Central School of Speech and Drama *
'I'd use the book. The one act play is an acting/directing/design teacher's salvation:a complete story arc with a specific style that defines relationship in a palpable world. Fundamental educational questions and challenges are captured without compromise in the one-act play format but with the significant gift of being time friendly so that a diversity of voices can be easily appreciated within the constraints of a single class or project.' * David Feldshuh, Professor of Theatre at Cornell University and Artistic Director of the Schwartz Center *
'I consider a good one-act play as the personification of what good art is really about' * Alan Ayckbourn *
'Some of our finest dramatists, Pinter among them, have found subtlety, richness, depth and, yes, size in the one-act form' * Benedict Nightingale, The Times *
'The one-act play is one of the neglected jewels of the theatre' * Sheila Hancock *
