Ventriloquist: Two Plays & Ventriloquial Miscellany goes deep into the world of notable American playwright Rick Mitchell's performative and diabolical examination of ventriloquism and the duality of man, featuring two of his most respected and autobiographical works: Ventriloquist Sex and Ventriloquist Adrift; as well as Bone, a poem with a nod to Jasper Johns's Ventriloquist; Radical Ventriloquism: Mimesis, Violence, and the Caste War of Yucatn; Dr. Mitchell's Ventriloquism & Comedy Workshop; How to Build a Quick and Cheap Puppet; an introduction by Mitchell; and a foreword by the acclaimed author of No Applause-Just Throw Money: The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous, Trav S.D., a modern-day vaudevillian and theater critic.
Before becoming a lecturer in the English Department of California State University, Rick Mitchell worked extensively as a playwright and professional comedian and ventriloquist. He performed throughout the U.S. and Caribbean, also appearing on television. Previous plays include: Urban Renewal, Potlatch, Cruising the Caribbean: Old Pleasures in the New World, Behind-the-Scenes, Brecht in L.A., The Composition of Herman Melville, and American Labor.
