A rich insight into the colourful world of 20th-century Italian poetry.Italy has produced some of the most inventive and controversial poetry of the past one hundred years. In this new anthology, all the major Italian poets of the early part of the century are well represented - Ungaretti, Saba, and Quasimodo among them. But many of their contemporaries from the mid-century and later are far less known - and deserve to be known - and Jamie McKendrick turns the light to them as well, including the work of Sereni, Passolini, Bertolucci and many others . . .
Jamie McKendrick was born in Liverpool in 1955. He is the author of three volumes of poetry, including The Marble Fly, winner of the 1997 Forward Prize for Best Collection. He is the editor of the forthcoming 20th-Century Italian Poems (to be published by Faber in 2004) and is completing a translation of the poetry of Valerio Magrelli. A selection of his poems is available under the title Sky Nails: Poems 1979-1997.
