Emyr Humphreys, poet, novelist, short-story writer and dramatist, is one of the foremost literary figures in Wales. For more than forty years he has interpreted the world of Welsh-speaking Wales, sympathetically but without sentiment, both to those who are a part of it and to those who observe it from the outside. This collection of published and unpublished poems, a few in Welsh but the majority in English, brought together by the author, represents all the poetry which he wishes to see preserved. Emyr Humphrey's poetry is characterised by a strong and direct emotional appeal, and this volume, which contains poems written over many years arranged in roughly chronological order, amply demonstrates his mastery in conveying the dilemmas and conflicts which are implicit in the human condition.
"One feature of Humphreys's work has remained constant over the sixty years of his career, namely, the fact that his poetry is very unlike any other poetry that has been written in Wales: and in this difference lies its significance-its power to make a difference to the way in which we think of ourselves and our world." New Welsh Review
Emyr Humphreys lives in Pen-y-berth near Llanfairpwll. He was born at Prestatyn and brought up in Trelawnyd. His work as a television dramatist frequently appears on S4C and Channel 4.
