Description

Awarded the Forward Prize for the best first collection of 1993, Don Paterson's Nil Nil introduced readers to an already mature and striking poetic personality. God's Gift to Women continues the adventure into deeper and darker territory. It includes 'A Private Bottling', which won first prize in the 1994 Arvon Poetry Competition, and a sequel to the earlier tour de force, 'The Alexandrian Library', as well as poems addressing the perennial obsessions of sex, drink, music, death and trains. A new, delicately lyrical touch is also in evidence.

Author Bio

Don Paterson was born in Dundee in 1963. He works as a musician and editor, and has written four collections of poems, Nil Nil (1993), God's Gift to Women (1997) - winner of both the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, The Eyes (1999) and Landing Light, which won both the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Prize for Poetry.
