"In the year one" is a selection of poems drawn from Lutz Seiler's second and third collections: "Pech and Blende" (2000) and "Vierzig Kilometer Nacht" (2003) and is the first collection of the author's work to appear in English. The volume is fully bilingual. Seiler is a significant new voice in contemporary German poetry, the work impressionistic, complex and elliptical, the product of a very original vision.
Lutz Seiler was born in 1963 in Gera, Thuringia, in the fomer GDR. He worked as a carpenter and stonemason and studied German Language and Literature. He now lives in Wilhelmshorst near Berlin. His work has won him a number of prizes in the German-speaking world, chief among them the Dresden Poetry Prize (Dresdner Lyrikpreis), the Kranichstein Literature Prize and the Anna Seghers prize. He is the author of three collections of poetry and a volume of essays.
