This wittily written book takes you on a lyrical journey through the various stages of a woman and the self-discovery of love, sex, heartbreak, pain, the empowering effects of being a woman, and her worth coupled with the anxieties of life that give birth to eye-opening experiences, unexpected addictions, and compulsory responses.
Each stage will challenge the reader to dig deep while meeting or greeting you at every stage. Similar to the author, these stages, along with various others, are in non-sequential order, meaning you may be at any given stage, during any given age, or point in your life.
Shakira Joi is a New Jersey native and an advocate for women's liberation in every form imaginable. She began writing poetry and short stories inspired by her surroundings that captured the unseen and unspoken ideas she rarely read about.
It wasn't until she earned her undergraduate degree that she began performing her poems live, eventually competing in local slam competitions and earning a spot on the New Jersey Slam team, where they competed internationally.
Writing and performing became more of a therapeutic process for healing, learning, and loving, most importantly, a tool for processing the dynamics of life.
In lieu of being a writer, today Shakira Joi is a college lecturer and an information technology e-Learning professional focused on creating academic and training experiences that highlight subculture phenomena.
Stages of a Woman is the first release of a series of books, plays, and screenplays. Visit her at: www.beautifuljoi.com.
