As the title of this book suggests, these poems are concerned with the way in which language can thicken our experience, even as that experience becomes attenuated through age, and increasingly ensconced within a complex and modern urban environment. This is a moving collection, which develops from the edge of everything and moves towards a comprehensive summation of a poetic sensibility preoccupied with its transience. Phyllis Perlstone, a Sydney poet, was earlier an artist and filmmaker, then turned to poetry full time. Her previous book, the edge of everything, (also published by Puncher & Wattmann) was awarded the Society of Women's Writers Biennial book award in 2009 and was shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Poetry Prize.
