Alice Pung says of Vociferate, 'be prepared to be blown away!' while Tracy Ryan says that Emily Sun is 'a genuinely new and distinctive presence in Australian poetry.' The poems in Emily Sun's debut poetry collection Vociferate were inspired by diasporic-Asian feminist writers. Like these writers, Emily resists Orientalist tropes as she explores the complexities of national and transnational identities, reflects upon the concept of belonging, and questions what it means to be Asian-Australian.
Emily Sun was born in Hong Kong, moved to England at age three, and at eight years old immigrated with her family to Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar (Perth, Western Australia). Emily's poetry and prose have been published in various journals and anthologies including Meanjin, Growing up Asian in Australia, Cordite Poetry Review and Australian Poetry Journal. Vociferate is her debut poetry collection.
