Guaranteed to spark children's imagination, this book shows how easy it is to make a wide range of whimsical cloth objects using commonly available fabrics such as wool, felt, burlap, and cleaning cloths. In five easy steps, kids will have fun crafting everything from a three-dimensional dog, to a marionette, pompom keychain, and textile collage. These experiments in color, texture, and shape will provide hours of hands-on entertainment. AUTHOR: Anna Llimos graduated from the Fine Arts University of Barcelona. "Cloth" is a craft projects book with 5 step instructions for 14 cloth projects which can be easily assembled by kids age 8 and up with adult supervision. Each project begins with a list of materials and contains no more than five color illustrated steps to the completion of the project. Project titles include Little Fishes, Tray, Turtle, Clown, Flower, Purse, Necklace and Bracelet, Puppy, Marionette, Owl, Felt Doll, Pompom Keychain, Gull, and Textile Collage. Each project ends with a beautiful photo of the finished project. Some of the skills used are cutting felt and fabric from a pattern, gluing with PVA glue, sewing with yarn and plastic needle, and using stick on Velcro patches. At the end of the book is a star system ranking of the difficulty levels of the projects, from one star to four stars. This section is almost completely conveyed by images, a very attractive communication technique. "Cloth" is an exciting crafts book for kids that can open a world of creativity from inexpensive materials. Also highly recommended is the following title from the same series, 5 Step Handicrafts for Kids: Clay (9780764356445, $9.99), by Anna Llimos. -- Midwest Book Review
