A visually compelling urban picture book.
Mike keeps pigeons on the roof of an abandoned burned-out building in New York. Every morning he lets them out of their coop, and they fly around in the sky until he calls them back home for breakfast. But one morning, a white pigeon, Light, flies away. His journey takes him across the city, and onto a subway train, where he is rescued by a young boy.
Since 1972, Jeannie Baker has been making her collages, many of which are designed to illustrate picture books, but stand individually as works of art. Her collages are created from many rich textures, including earth, knitted wool and feathers, which, combined with more usual artists materials, achieve a wonderful three dimensional illusion. Internationally renowned, her work has garnered critical and public acclaim in Australia and abroad. Jeannie was born in England but has lived in Sydney for many years.
