My baabinje always had dirt under her fingernails.
She would take me out to the backyard and say, 'Sit, Marli. Observe and connect with the day.'
From two brilliant Bundjalung women -- acclaimed motherdaughter pair Bronwyn Bancroft and Ella Noah Bancroft -- comes Baabinje's Backyard, a joyous, colourful and wise picture book about a grandmother's love for her garden, her Country and her family.
Born in Tenterfield, northern New South Wales, Dr Bronwyn Bancroft is a descendant of the Djanbun clan of the Bundjalung nation. Bronwyn is a leading Indigenous artist, illustrator and art administrator whose work is held at the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Australian Museum. Bronwyn has illustrated many award-winning books for children and she has a long history of involvement in community activism.
Ella Noah Bancroft is proud member of the Bundjalung nation and was born in Australia. She is a descendant of the Bundjalung peoples of Northern NSW, and also has blood lines to Scotland and England. She is a connection therapist, mentor, activist, creative, and carbon neutral event co-ordinator. She is passionate about re-wilding the world and the feminine force.
