Charlotte Barkla is a Brisbane-based children's author and teacher who worked as a civil engineer and physics teacher before rediscovering her love for children's literature. She now writes picture books, middle-grade fiction and feature articles. Charlotte's debut picture book, All Bodies are Good Bodies was published by Hardie Grant Children's Publishing in 2020. It has since been translated in Italian, Turkish, Slovenian and Romanian. English-language rights have been sold in China, and the book was published in the UK in August 2021. The first two novels in Charlotte's middle-grade series, Edie's Experiments, were also published in 2020, by Penguin Random House. The first book has been translated in Turkish, and the second book was shortlisted for the 2021 Environment Award for Children's Literature. Charlotte's fourth children's book, a light-hearted exploration of boundaries and consent (From My Head to My Toes, I Say What Goes) was published in February 2022. Translation rights have since been sold in South Korea. Charlotte was the recipient of an Australian Society of Authors' Takeaway Creatives Grant in 2020 and an Arts South Australia grant in 2021. As well as writing for children, Charlotte writes feature articles for publications including CSIRO's Double Helix magazine, Beanz magazine and the Australian Educator. She regularly visits schools and libraries for creative writing workshops, sharing her passion for science, creativity and stories with children of all ages.
