This story recounts the childhood memories of cousins growing up with their grandparents deep in the Malaysian countryside. In a time without the glare and distraction of modern technology, they discover the brilliance of nature by moon and candlelight.
The story is an immersion in Malaysian culture and nature. Terms such as 'Tok-Bah' and 'Tok-Mak' for grandfather and grandmother for authenticity have been used. With the help of the beautiful illustrations, children will be able to see the traditional dress, houses and tropical environment in Malaysia. However, the special bond between the children and their grandparents in the story is a theme that can be enjoyed universally.
Inda Ahmad Zahri believes in a world of wonder. Her stories are inspired by natural and cultural gems curated from her travels and lovingly added to her Malaysian heritage. She is also a surgical doctor, swapping her writers hat and paintbrush for scrubs and scalpel when duty calls. Lesley McGee is an artist, designer and photographer. She looks to her extensive travel experiences for inspiration and texture, and light and detail are a dominant feature of her work.
