Djawundil Maymara is a Magalili woman raised my a Gumatj Elder. She is a Yolu mother and grandmother from Bawaka in north-east Arnhem Land. She is a member of the Bawaka Collective and the Gay'wu Group of Women and a co-author of Weaving Lives Together at Bawaka: North East Arnhem Land, Welcome to My Country and Songspirals: Sharing Women's Wisdom of Country Through Songlines. Yirrkala School, a remote school in East Arnhem Land (NT), has a long-standing program of bilingual, 'both ways' education. Children from the school created the illustrations for i ga Gatapaa in a workshop led by ILF lifetime ambassador Alison Lester.
